Define yourself in this tiny little box. Interesting challenge. It's hard to do without employing the typical cliches.
So, let's see. I drink too much caffeine and am perpetually sleep-deprived. I have extremely eclectic taste in music, and an equally broad appreciation for literature and cinema. (As Rob Gordon would say, "Books, records, films -- these things matter. Call me shallow but it's the truth.") I'm a wee bit nerdy - I read too much and have a love of random trivia.
People usually characterize me as nice, or at least very accommodating. I'm loyal to my friends. I'm fairly laid-back... most of the time.
I have a restless side, though. I love Portland, but I find myself uneasy if I can't hit the road from time to time. I suspect that this same quirk in my personality is also responsible for my love of noir literature and Johnnie Walker Black.
Also, I suppose it's worth noting that I run my own pop culture blog, PretentiousPDX, and I write the live music blog for a local alternative radio station (I bet you can figure out which one). So I go to A LOT of shows.
The only thing I find more difficult or contrived than describing myself is describing what I want in a relationship. I mean, it'd be really nice to have the sort of romance where, when they make the biopic of your life, they depict your courtship as a montage of joy-filled activities set to The O'Jays' "Love Train." But obviously, that's kinda of rare. And I'm pretty sure I just described a Coors Light commercial.
If you could have a dinner party and invite any 4 people, dead or alive, who'd be coming? Chuck Klosterman, Douglas Coupland, Ernest Hemingway, and Steve Jobs.
Where are your local haunts? I have a favorite spot in pretty much every neighborhood. Doug Fir, Wonder Ballroom, Mississippi Studios, Crystal Ballroom, Church, Interurban, The Matador, Tryon Creek, to name a few.
What kind of person are you attracted to? Like I said, I'm not sure that arbitrary criteria are really the way to go. But I will say that I like people with an enthusiasm for life. If you're passionate, you'll pique my interest. (Within reason. Chaining myself to a tree in protest is not my idea of a good first date.) Being a little bit geeky is ok, and props if you're witty & well-read (and enjoy alliteration). And obviously, I suppose it would help if you don't look like Medusa. I'm not big on snakes.
What songs would be on the soundtrack of your life? Crowded House, MGMT, Rilo Kiley, Patsy Cline, Beck and maybe a little Amy Winehouse. Something from Faure's Requiem. And probably a bunch of nineties music for filler.
I consider myself an open-minded person, but my deal breakers are prior felony convictions and being a dude.
Something I said I'd never do but did anyway was post an online personal ad.
The last concert/show I attended was... this changes several times a week. Right now: Dan Croll.
My guiltiest pleasure is cheesy pop music.
My picture(s) reveal that I am not fond of smiling in photos. I smile more in real life, I promise.
My beverage of choice is single-malt scotch served neat.
